How to read the earnings calendar

The list is filtered to S&P 500 names, then ranked within each day by anticipation — a composite of market cap, average daily volume, and a bellwether boost for the first-in-sector reporters that set tone for peers (NVDA, JPM, WMT, etc.). It's the same ranking the MiyagiTrades EconBot uses for its weekly Discord post.

What the timing tags mean

  • BMO — Before Market Open. The report drops in the hour before the cash open and the stock typically gaps at the bell.
  • AMC— After Market Close. The report drops after 4 PM ET; the move happens in extended hours and is digested at next day's open.
  • No tag — Timing not yet confirmed by the data provider. The print might be intraday, mid-session, or simply unannounced.

Why traders watch earnings

  • Pre-earnings IV crush.Implied volatility climbs into reports and collapses immediately after — known as IV crush. It's the central dynamic in earnings options trades.
  • Surprise drives the move. The actual print vs estimate (an EPS or revenue beat/miss) is what moves the stock, not the absolute number.
  • Sector contagion. One mega-cap report can move its whole sector. Worth knowing your portfolio's indirect exposures.
  • Sizing through the print. Many systematic traders cut size or stay flat through earnings — a single 10% gap can wipe out months of returns on a leveraged position.

Calendar refreshes at most every 4 hours. S&P 500 constituents and company profile data are sourced from Financial Modeling Prep; BMO/AMC timing comes from Finnhub. Estimates are consensus from analyst surveys. Companies can change report dates with short notice — verify against the company's investor relations page for any date that affects your trade plan.
